In response to these allegations, Farage asserted that the accusations were false and part of a targeted attack by certain individuals. He emphasized that he did not make the reported comments nearly 50 years ago, highlighting the sudden emergence of these claims coinciding with his party’s rising popularity in the polls.
Farage defended his track record in combating extremism and far-right ideologies, pointing out that his political adversaries were behind the accusations. He labeled the situation as a smear campaign orchestrated by the establishment, citing his long history of working against extremist beliefs.
Despite the allegations, there was no indication that Farage currently holds the same views attributed to him from his youth. Additionally, other former classmates did not recall the controversial statements or behavior mentioned by one individual.
A spokesperson for Reform UK denounced the allegations as baseless and lacking supporting evidence, criticizing the timing of their publication and attributing them to a deliberate effort to discredit the party. The spokesperson anticipated further attempts to tarnish Reform UK’s reputation as the party’s popularity continued to grow leading up to the next election.
