“Royal Mail Warns of Delays in 100+ UK Postcodes”

Must read

Royal Mail has raised concerns this week regarding potential delays in service across more than 100 UK postcodes. The postal service identified 38 delivery offices that may experience disruptions due to severe weather conditions and increased sick leave among workers. These offices collectively serve approximately 100 postcodes throughout the country.

According to a company spokesperson, adverse weather conditions, including storms named Goretti, Ingrid, and Chandra in January, coupled with higher-than-normal employee absenteeism, have led to temporary disruptions in certain delivery routes. The company emphasized that the majority of mail is still being delivered on schedule and acknowledged the frustration that customers experience when mail does not arrive as expected.

In response to any delays affecting specific routes, Royal Mail has stated that they will enlist additional support to expedite the restoration of normal delivery services. This announcement follows a report by the BBC, which highlighted instances where letters were reportedly held in delivery offices for extended periods, with some postal workers anonymously claiming that packages were given priority over letters in some depots.

Royal Mail noted that the surge in online shopping has resulted in an increase in parcel deliveries while the volume of addressed letters in their network has declined. The company, responsible for servicing nearly two million postcodes, is committed to maintaining a six-day mail delivery schedule and strives to ensure timely delivery of both letters and parcels.

Despite receiving approval from the regulatory body Ofcom last year to discontinue second-class letter deliveries on Saturdays and switch to an alternate weekday schedule, Royal Mail’s plans have been postponed due to unresolved negotiations with the Communication Workers Union. The pilot program, initially rolled out in 35 delivery offices, is set to expand nationwide to all 1,200 sites pending further agreements.
