“Single Suspect in Custody After Huntingdon Train Stabbing”

British Transport Police have reported that only one suspect is currently in custody on suspicion of attempted murder following a harrowing mass stabbing incident on a train in Huntingdon. The 32-year-old man, who boarded the train at Peterborough station, is now considered the sole suspect in the Huntingdon train knife attack. Another individual, a 35-year-old from London, has been released with no further action as investigations revealed he was not involved in the attack. The police have recovered a knife from the scene.

Deputy Chief Constable Stuart Cundy stated that the investigation is progressing rapidly, and they are confident that no additional suspects are being sought in connection with the incident. Specialist detectives are delving into the background of the suspect in custody and the events leading up to the attack.

Five of the individuals injured in the incident have been discharged from the hospital, while one remains in critical condition. This individual, a member of LNER rail staff who bravely attempted to thwart the attacker, has been praised for his heroic actions that likely saved many lives.

Passengers on the train resorted to locking themselves in toilets and arming themselves with makeshift weapons during the eight-minute knife rampage, which resulted in two individuals fighting for their lives. Witness accounts described the chaos as people fled the attacker, with acts of heroism emerging amidst the horror.

The incident, deemed an isolated attack, prompted a major response from emergency services, with two individuals arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. The Defence Secretary confirmed that there were no indications of terrorism involved in the attack.

Various public figures, including Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and King Charles, expressed deep concern and shock over the incident, extending sympathies to the victims and their families. Video footage captured the arrest of the suspect at Huntingdon Station, showcasing the swift and intense police response to the situation.
