New footage has surfaced showing Anthony Joshua emerging from a vehicle involved in a fatal collision that claimed two lives in Nigeria. The incident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in southwest Nigeria, the homeland of his parents. Joshua, the former heavyweight champion, was in a Jeep when it collided with a stationary truck on Monday, December 29, shortly after his recent victory against Jake Paul in the boxing ring.
Reports indicate that Joshua, sitting in the back seat, sustained minor injuries and was taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment. Local authorities, led by police commissioner Lanre Ogunlowo, have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Eyewitnesses rushed to assist those involved in the crash, with video footage showing Joshua being helped from the vehicle. The footage depicts the 36-year-old appearing to be in discomfort as he exits the vehicle.
According to local reports, the collision occurred when the vehicle swerved into the stationary truck due to a burst tire, leading to a loss of control. Eyewitnesses, including Adeniyi Orojo, shared details of the incident, stating that Joshua was in a Lexus SUV with three other occupants when the crash happened, resulting in fatalities among the passengers.
Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, confirmed that Joshua was safe and en route to the hospital following the accident. The timing of the incident, just before the new year, coincides with Joshua’s anticipation of significant developments in his career, including a renewed rivalry with Tyson Fury.
In a recent Instagram post after his victory over Jake Paul, Joshua expressed gratitude to his supporters and hinted at exciting plans for the upcoming year. Despite the setback, he remains optimistic about the future and looks forward to what lies ahead.
