Tributes are flowing in after the sudden passing of a much-loved French teacher and rugby enthusiast from Stockport.
Jonathan Gander, aged 45, tragically passed away on Tuesday due to a suspected heart attack. Werneth School, in a heartfelt Facebook post, described him as a kind and dedicated individual who taught with great enthusiasm.
Colleagues and parents expressed their condolences for the respected teacher, with one individual recalling fond memories of his vibrant presence within the school community.
In response to the outpouring of support, the school has received numerous messages, which will be compiled into a student book of condolences for Gander’s family. A minute of silence was observed during a Year 11 football match, and students from the same year group signed a handmade card for the bereaved family.
Ms. Chantler, the acting headteacher at Werneth School, paid tribute to Gander, highlighting his positive impact on the school community and beyond. She praised his character as a kind-hearted individual, emphasizing the lasting impact of his contributions.
Apart from his teaching role, Gander was an integral part of Didsbury Old Bedians RUFC, where he actively participated in various club activities for nearly a decade. His dedication and friendly demeanor earned him a special place within the club, as acknowledged by a fellow club member.
The club has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to assist Gander’s family with funeral and legal expenses during this challenging time.
