“Coast Guard Rescues Passengers from Overturned Boat at Sea”

Must read

Passengers on a sailing vessel made an urgent distress call when their boat overturned in rough waters hundreds of miles off the coast. The incident occurred near Cape Hatteras in North Carolina, with five individuals forced to abandon ship as it started taking on water, according to the Virginia Coast Guard.

Upon receiving the distress call from the crew of the Magic Bus, the Coast Guard deployed a helicopter and a ship to rescue the stranded passengers who had fled to a life raft. All five individuals were safely rescued and found to be in good condition after a coordinated operation involving the Coast Guard and a large warship.

The rescue involved the Cutter Angela McShan, an Air Station Elizabeth City HC-130 Hercules aircraft crew, and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew. The aircraft crew located the life raft, established communication, and confirmed the well-being of all passengers before the helicopter successfully retrieved them.

Due to the distance from shore, the Coast Guard collaborated with the aircraft carrier USS George HW Bush to provide fueling support for the rescue mission. Following the successful rescue operation, the survivors were transported back to Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City.

During the rescue, footage captured the sinking boat and the passengers being approached by the rescue helicopter. This incident comes after another recent rescue operation where passengers were left adrift in the ocean when their catamaran sank during a day trip from a cruise ship to the Dominican Republic. Naval officials rescued the 55 passengers who had to jump into the water after the boat became submerged.
