Elliot Page Reveals Lack of New Roles Post-‘The Odyssey’

Must read

In the midst of discussions surrounding Christopher Nolan’s interpretation of The Odyssey earlier this year, both critics and enthusiasts found common ground in praising Elliot Page’s exceptional performance in the film. However, the Canadian actor revealed that he has not been contacted for any new roles since the movie’s success. Page disclosed this information during an interview on the podcast On Film… With Kevin McCarthy.

When asked about his future projects by host Kevin McCarthy, who assumed he would be inundated with offers after the movie, Page responded, “No, Kevin, I’m not.” Known for his portrayal of the Greek soldier Sinon in The Odyssey, Page received accolades for his role as the character who meets an early demise in Odysseus’s strategy and returns to deliver a poignant monologue posthumously.

Reflecting on the lack of casting calls, Page humorously mentioned the pushback he sometimes faces for being Canadian, alluding to the unfounded uproar from far-right figures earlier in the year. This stemmed from rumors on social media suggesting Page would play Achilles, a controversy ridiculed by 2SLGBTQ+ advocates when it was revealed Page was portraying a different character.

Page, an actor since childhood, gained fame for his Oscar-nominated performance in Juno and appearances in movies like Inception and Hard Candy. In 2020, he publicly came out as transgender, and since then, he has been a vocal critic of anti-2SLGBTQ+ rhetoric and legislation in North America.

During a podcast episode, Page expressed his desire to continue acting and shared how transitioning has increased his confidence in his craft. He feels that this newfound comfort could lead to some of his best work yet. Reflecting on his experience filming Inception in 2010, where he portrayed a female character, Page admitted feeling personally uneasy despite enjoying the role. In contrast, wrapping up The Odyssey marked a profound moment for him, symbolizing a significant personal journey.

Page is not the only actor from Nolan’s epic to face a dry spell in offers post-release. Samantha Morton, who played Circe in The Odyssey, revealed on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that she has not worked since the film’s completion, attributing this to industry dynamics and her age of 49. Morton emphasized that while she believes in her talent, she acknowledges the industry’s evolving landscape.

Overall, Page remains optimistic about his future endeavors in the entertainment industry, eager to explore diverse roles and continue his artistic journey.
