Users of various devices, including Samsung models, have encountered screen flickering issues while using the Gmail app. Some individuals have reported instances where text disappears completely or is replaced by blank white boxes instead of the intended messages.
Frustrated users have turned to social media platforms to express their grievances regarding the glitches. One user named Jeremiah voiced his concerns on X, directing a message to Gmail, questioning when Android would function correctly on devices like the Samsung Fold. He highlighted the ongoing flickering problem on the inner screen of the folding phone, labeling it as unacceptable.
Similar complaints have surfaced on Google’s support forums, with one user detailing struggles to read emails due to constant screen flickering despite attempting various troubleshooting methods like force-stopping the app, clearing the cache, restarting the device, and updating all relevant software.
Google’s product expert, Kimiya Kitani, has linked the issue to Android System WebView, a crucial component enabling apps to display web content within the application interface. Kitani acknowledged that certain devices, particularly Samsung tablets, are facing intermittent challenges with Android System WebView, and the matter has been escalated to Google for resolution.
While the exact number of affected users remains uncertain, reports indicate that Samsung foldable devices such as the Galaxy Z Fold series and specific Galaxy tablets are notably impacted. As a temporary solution, Kitani suggests rotating the device as a possible remedy to mitigate the flickering problem.
The recommended workaround involves opening emails in portrait mode, switching to landscape mode until the screen stabilizes, and then reverting to portrait mode. This interim fix is proposed to assist users until a permanent solution is released by Google.
