Michelle Mone’s Company Faces Backlash over Luxury Home Amid PPE Scandal

Must read

A company associated with Michelle Mone faced backlash after being instructed to refund £122 million for questionable PPE transactions. The situation worsened as it was revealed that a business linked to her spouse, Douglas Barrowman, acquired a lavish £10 million residence in Florida. This purchase on Fisher Island occurred before the High Court ruling against PPE Medpro, a company co-owned by Mone’s husband, for providing defective surgical gowns using government funds.

The acquisition of the high-end property sparked outrage among families affected by the faulty PPE, with Deborah Doyle, who lost her mother in a care home, expressing disappointment over the lack of repayment by PPE Medpro. The Covid-19 Bereaved Families for Justice group criticized the luxury purchase amid the outstanding debt to the public health system.

Amos Waldman, who lost his grandmother during the pandemic due to inadequate PPE, condemned Mone for benefiting from the situation and living a luxurious life. Calls were made for stripping Mone of her titles, citing her involvement in the controversial PPE dealings.

Despite the ongoing controversy, a representative for Mone clarified that the property acquisition in Miami was part of regular business activities by Barrowman Group. The Department for Health and Social Care pursued legal action against PPE Medpro for supplying faulty gowns during the health crisis, emphasizing the need to recover the misused funds for the benefit of the NHS.

Allegations surfaced that Mone recommended PPE Medpro for government contracts, leading to scrutiny over their involvement in the pandemic response. Mone defended herself, claiming innocence in the matter. The consortium behind PPE Medpro expressed willingness to engage in discussions with the government to resolve the financial dispute, criticizing the lack of response from authorities.
